Winery: Tres Valles

Tres Valles

This project started in 1999 when a group of friends joined thir desire to develop and learn about wine.

Soon we had the opportunity to harvest our first crop, with the idea of sharing it with family and friends, but after an amazing result, we decided to formalize our project and bring our wines to market. That’s how Tres Valles was born.
The name Tres Valles was given because our wines are produced with grapes harvested from the three major valleys of the region: San Vicente Ferrer, San Antonio de las Minas Valley and Guadalupe Valley.

Tres Valles

Inspired by the origins of our state, our image and brand are based on the indigenous groups in Baja California, also with the goal of spread this culture and tradition. We produce our wines respecting what nature has given us. We work hand in hand with different farmers sharing our knowledge of vineyards so we can obtain the best grapes every year.

Winery: MariaTinto

“Mariatinto is the beginning and also the culmination of a dream and a long enological project, where the only purpose is to create a wine of outstanding quality with all the expression of Baja California.”

Guillermo González

Mariatinto started in 2002, as a winemaking project unique in its time. Not part of a proposed winery with vineyards, but an established winemaker’s portfolio of wines and a lot of barrels. It begins with the assembly of a Guadalupe Valley wine that could reach the tables of the best restaurants in Mexico, without being expensive with a clear focus on the Old World wines.

The first harvest resulted in an assembly of 25 barrels, which resulted in the desired wine: complex, elegant nose, mouth, palate, not tired and that can support a wide range of dishes without overpowering them.

Each vintage, from the first, 2002 to current 2009, have changed the mix of grapes, while respecting the essence in style. Tempranillo, Grenache and Syrah have been the base, used as ornaments and accessories in the mouth aromatic Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah from different vineyards in the area.

Winery: Rincón de Guadalupe

About Us

Rincón de Guadalupe

In 1947, Mayor Castillo started the lineage of three generations of winemakers at Rancho Rincon de Guadalupe in San Vicente Valley, where the oldest high quality grapes of Tempranillo in Latin-America are grown since 1953.

We are located at the Baja in San Vicente Valley where the grace of our pale red lands, covered by the Pacific Ocean breezes giving them a unique attribute to our wine that joins the magic touch of the aging wine in Radoux French oak barrels, elaborated by Julio Felix Castillo the winery’s winemaker.

Rincón de Guadalupe

The unique attributes in our grapes it’s a perfect combination between the nature of our territory and the constant specific care, a full reason why notable local wineries use them in their productions.

In 2007 the dream of  a third generation became thru when Tempranillo and Cabernet wine came out of a long, quiet, delicate and premium process, later on and following a very specific procedure we made out of our own harvest , Palomino and Grenache pure varietal wine.

Nowadays we produce:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon

    Rincón de Guadalupe

  • Tempranillo
  • Merlot
  • Syrah
  • Carigñan

Winery: Viñas Pijoan

We are a small family-owned winery dedicated to produce honest wines, where we seek to express the elegance and corpulence of the terroir of Baja California’s wine valleys.

Viñas Pijoan

Mexican of Catalan origin, Pau Pijoan started his taste for wine from a young age on the family table, and it wasn’t until 1999, when as a pioneer of the movement of La Escuela de Oficios (where most new Baja Californian wineries have begun), he submerged himself body and soul in his new phase as a wine producer.

Viñas Pijoan

Our Philosophy

We are committed to produce honest wines that incorporate the history of our terroir, reflecting its aridity, its morning fogs, the winds and the afternoon

heat, followed by cold and crisp nights. We seek to create wines that reveal the land’s diverse soils, ranging from the sands of the river banks and the decomposed oceanic granite, to the iron rich red soils. On these sites with the help of the human hand, the vine flourishes and rewards us with its fruit, which is managed with the care and respect that it deserves, bearing wines of great quality.

We are aware that most of what we are we owe it to our environment and therefore it’s natural to strive to protect it. On our small vineyard we promote the use of earth-friendly management techniques that affect as little as possible the complex relationships that naturally thrive on this rural setting.

Viñas Pijoan

For instance, we attempt to control the exploding rodent population by installing owl nests, to attract their natural predators and through the help of our four dogs rescued from the street. To repel insects we promote the arrival of swallows, the bird of our logo, and if the problem is severe we prefer the use of bioinsecticides. As well, we don’t use herbicides since we believe that managed weeds can be part of a vineyard; its control is made by mowing before it sets seed.

Winery: Vinícola Relieve

In a glass of wine, emotions and contrasts are captured.  Within our vineyard situated in San Antonio de

Vinícola Relieve

las Minas, which forms part of “Valle de Guadalupe”, we find the footpaths and mountains that mold a unique “Relieve” or “Relief”.  The sun appears to intentionally play with the shadows flattering the many-colored sunsets.  The vineyards are situated in the coordinates N 31°59´19.0428´´ 116°40´56.2944´´ in the city of San Antonio de las Minas in Ensenada County, Baja California.  The Pacific Ocean is 10 miles to the East, and we enjoy the altitude of 1,113 ft. above sea level with a climate that is similar to the Mediterranean.

Vinícola Relieve

Although the first roots have given fruit in Relieve, the vineyard is continually evolving and maturing.  Impelled by modernism and simplicity, the vineyard continues to grow and transform into a company where we practice modern techniques thanks to the contributions of our predecessors.

In the architectural project of the vineyard, we have taken into consideration the importance of conserving our natural resources. Our building project aims to link the minimalist design concept with different contours of the topography, thus flattering unique spaces.

Vinícola Relieve

These spaces will allow the cellar to enjoy total privacy; nestled underground, surrounded with immense walls of granite and with suitable temperatures perfect for wine storage and conservation.   The vineyard is projected to open mid 2012.

Winery: Viñedos LaFarga

“Almost born in Guadalupe Valley as our father worked at the company Olivares Mexicanos, and having lived part of our childhood in the countryside, my two brothers, son and I decided to return to our roots and have fun in the winemaking culture.” - Roberto LaFarga

That’s why in 1998 we planted three acres of four grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah in San Antonio de las Minas region. Resulting in our first formal label until August 2004 and presented during the Harvest Festival in Ensenada that year, the harvest of 2002.

Due to insufficient water and land, we decided in 2003 to acquire another property in the Calafia Valley which is another microclimate within the Guadalupe Valley; currently we have approximately 30 acres planted of Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvingon Blanc. In 2010 our total estimated production was 1,500 vinified boxes planning to increase the production up to 6,000 boxes annually. Our production includes 7 labels, 3 blends and 4 varietal wines. The tasting area opened in April 2011, we are currently receiving visitors only by appointment and hoping to finish in 2014 at the top of the hill 60 meters above the valley a gravity flow winery.

Winery: La Escuelita

La Estación de Oficios El Porvenir, better known as “La Escuelita” is a project that supports new wine producers throughout the baja wine region.

La Escuelita

Have you ever imagined making your own wine production and wine making all decisions, such as grape variety, the type of yeast for wine making, or the origin of the barrels?
It stopped being fiction, and more people now have at their disposal everything necessary for the wine, without having to be a winemaker or wine expert.
In the Valley of Guadalupe, is the “La Escuelita”, one of the most innovative projects of Hugo D’Acosta wine, winemaker at Casa de Piedra.

This is a wine school, where during four Saturday sessions normally taught during the month of August, students learn the basic principles of winemaking. This preparation culminates with the opportunity to half a ton of grapes make wine for every two people.

In this way all students learn in theory and practice each of the steps involved in wine making: grinding, inoculation (yeast to the grape), pressed and stored. Besides all the care that must be followed to achieve the best possible quality.

La Escuelita

To verify that all winemaking operations within this experimental wine are carried out correctly, there is a brigade of skilled workers led by Thomas Egli, who is the head winemaker. In this way students can get help to make these processes.

But at La Escuelita wines are produced not only the students but also some labels which, thanks to its high level of quality, are now well recognized as Aboriginal and Shimul as well as house wine: Station El Porvenir.

Importantly, through this project, you may see on the local market, more and more labels artisanal producers, who learn to make an inexpensive wine, but without diminishing the quality of the final product.

La Escuelita has some concrete piles, as well as an area with stainless steel tanks, where most of the wine vinified that occurs there, but there are some roof spaces where you can have some plastic tanks. That’s where students come prepared for the first time are born and evolve their wine.

The architect Alejandro D’Acosta, who through various materials related to oenology and viticulture, such as stone, wood stakes, glass bottles, fragments of barrels, and some synthetic fibers, was commissioned to transform a former oil factory Olive in a place with extraordinary detail in every corner.

Cellars

At the main entrance, on one wall, is a mural artist Carlos De la Torre, which clearly represents the trade that takes place there. No doubt we can say that La Escuelita is one of the most important wine projects in the region and in turn is one of the biggest drivers of Mexican viticulture.
